“How to Help Your Anxious Child”

Presented by Dr. Andrea Victor & Dr. Rachel Tercek

Dr. Andrea Victor is a Licensed Clinical Pyschologist on staff at Rush NeuroBehavioral Center. She specializes in Child and Adolescent Pyschology, Cognitive-behavioral Therapy and Anxiety and Mood disorders. Dr. Victor will discuss strategies parents can use to comfort a child who suffers from anxiety.

Dr. Rachel Tercek is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at RNBC specializing in Child and Adolescent Psychology, and Behavior and Mood Disorders. Dr. Tercek will address strategies parents can employ to encourage obedience and improve the behavior of children with these and other critical issues. If your child is easily frustrated, having frequent meltdowns, or tends to be inflexible, this session is for you.

Sara Panian, MA, CCC-SLP/L, a Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist at Rush NeuroBehavioral Center will provide an overview of specific diagnoses and the diagnostic criteria associated with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). She will also discuss the speech and language characteristics of children with an ASD diagnosis, explore the role of speech-language pathologists in the treatment of children with ASD, and provide parents and caregivers practical strategies for improving the communication skills of children with an ASD. “The Secret of Children’s Social Success”

Clark McKown, PhD, the Associate Executive Director and Research Director at Rush Neurobehavioral Center, will explain why friendships matter, discuss key contributors to children’s social success, and signs that children are having trouble forming or maintaining relationships.  He will also provide strategies that parents and teachers can use to promote children’s social  success.
